  1. We loved it! Wonderful program. Beautiful blend of voices. We also really enjoyed meeting members of the choir in the foyer following the concert. It gave us the opportunity to express our pleasure and to thank them! We are looking forward to your next concert!

  3. It was a wonderful afternoon . The performance was a blend of well known songs and songs that were unfamiliar to me but beautiful to hear. It was such a professional, enjoyable performance and as the conductor hoped a bit of calm during a busy season.

  5. This afternoon’s concert was just the right length. I was pleased there was no intermission, which would have broken the fabulous mood the men developed. The acoustics in the church are excellent.

  12. Beautiful sound. Would like to hear more a cappella to enjoy the pure sounds of the choir. And perhaps more interplay between sections of the choir, and more “oomph”!

Still, it’s a beautiful performance by a well disciplined group.

  13. The men of Chor Leoni sang beautifully with such joy that I felt transported. Highlights were the Plainchant at the beginning, the Franz Biebl Ave Maria and Star of Wonder. All of this took me back to a time when Christmas seemed simpler and more meaningful. Thank you, Chor Leoni.

  17. Last night was my first time at a Chor Leoni concert. Overall I was impressed with the choir and the conductor. Several of the songs were real stand-outs, and the concert put me in a great Christmas mood – I really enjoyed the Silent Night encore at the end. A couple of notes for consideration: there was a song listed in the program that the conductor & choir skipped, and there was no reason mentioned. I was disappointed, as I was looking forward to hearing this particular song! (Called ‘Maybe This Christmas’). Also, I found the middle section of the programme to be a bit somber and sleep-inducing. I would have wished for more upbeat Christmas music. However, I’m looking forward to attending more concerts by this fantastic men’s choir.

  19. Christmas with Chor Leoni is something we look forward to each year. Last night’s performance was once again, the perfect “launch” for us, to this beautiful holiday. Erick Lichte, draws out the best from his choir in their performances of classic pieces like Ave Maria, and other
more contemporary pieces like Star of Wonder. The cathedral is silent while the men sing; it is completely captivating!

  22. We went to the early show on Friday, and it was fabulous! My husband and I really enjoyed it. The sliding song and mummers song were particular highlights. But for me the best was sure on this shining night, which I’ve sung myself and it always moves me to tears . I’ve done the SSTB version in Lars Kaario’s choir, but the all male version was wonderful. Well done! I’m already looking forward to next years show!

  32. Probably have said this before but….I have attended every Christmas concert (and many others) since the start at CCC and AW though 2009, then every one since 2010 in West Vancouver, with the exception of the one year you were not here, and I couldn’t get downtown…boo hoo.

However, today I had the good fortune to sit beside the one Estonion in the audiance. He had very little English, so not sure what brought him there, but I know he was thrilled with the entire performance, smiling to me many times and shaking his head with the word “excellent”, followed by a “thumbs up” and loud applause following Liulaskmise – laul. He loved it! As did I. He also was really captivated by The Mummer Song.

As always, a wonderful performance, and an essential part of my Christmas Season. Thank you, and hugs to all.

All the best and congrats on the Singapore invite.

  35. Chor Leoni put on a dynamite Christmas show at West Vancouver United Church! O Come, O Come Emmanuel was riveting and sent chills. Numbers like Wassail and The Mummer Song brought the house down with their raucous and fun spirit. Chor Leoni lifted spirits AND rocked the church rafters! 🙂

  44. We loved the Christmas concert. Our tickets were purchased a bit late and we were in Row 3 which was actually great because we could see the facial expressions of the singers and conductor. In future, I would love more latin hymns in Gregorian Chant style which I think is particularly suited to men’s voices.

  45. I’d quite happily chuck all the rest of Christmas and keep the music—it’s the best part, particularly these gentlemen. They delivered a splendid balance of the solemn and the frivolous in a very festive setting. If you don’t treat yourself to choral music live, you’re happy to see a Monet print instead of an original. And you don’t want to miss the extraneous bits of entertainment, such as Erick’s gently exasperated flinch at some premature applause.

If the last piece I ever hear before I die is the Biebl Ave Maria I won’t complain. Please keep that in the program Chanticleer-style. The more emphasis on a cappella the better as well.

I do have one criticism: a conspicuous absence in the usual bass lineup. I am mildly heartbroken.

  48. My husband and I are long-time fans of the Lions and go to several concerts each year. This one was, as usual, beautiful in its selection of songs and their delivery. Standouts this year included “Ava Maria” (goosebumps), and their rendition of Robert Frost’s poem, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” An appreciative shout-out to Erick Lichte who is not only an accomplished artistic director, but who also has a gift for engaging effortlessly – and with humour – with the audience. We would have liked more uplifting selections in the middle section of the performance: there was a certain sameness to the sound and feeling of several pieces. We love you guys! And you give back the love at the end of the concert when you meet-and-greet as the audience leaves the venue. Merry Christmas!

This was our second Chor Leoni event only, since we are relatively new arrivals to Vancouver (2 years and a bit). We totally enjoyed the first event, but this was even better because it highlighted the voices and harmony all the more.

  83. Candlelight and music at Christmas, in a beautiful old church, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Along with my aunt, visiting from Nova Scotia, we three really enjoyed the concert at St. Andrew’s Wesley.
It was a first for us all, though probably not a last. She’d wanted to hear you sing for a very long time, being in a choir herself – one directed by an old friend of the late Diane Loomer.
She, like we, was definitely not disappointed and said it was one of the high points of her visit here.
It was nice for us to be able to join in the singing also. Coming from Wales, we are always willing to join in the sing song!
You gave heart as well as voice. Well done to you all. It was lovely.
